How FD maturity is calculated

A fixed deposit's maturity amount depends on whether it's cumulative (interest compounds and is paid out with the principal at maturity) or non-cumulative (interest is paid out every quarter, and only the principal returns at maturity). This calculator supports both, and works out the exact maturity date and amount for any tenure entered as years, months and days — not just round years.

The interest calculation follows standard Indian bank convention: each full 3-month quarter, counted from your FD's own deposit date, earns a flat annual rate ÷ 4 regardless of that quarter's actual day count. Only a trailing period shorter than 3 months at the end uses actual-days ÷ 365 simple interest. The full quarter-by-quarter breakdown — including the exact formula behind every row — is shown once you calculate.

Frequently asked questions

How is FD maturity amount calculated?

For cumulative FDs, interest compounds every quarter — each full 3-month period (counted from your deposit date, not the calendar quarter) earns a flat annual rate ÷ 4, matching how Indian banks actually compute it. Only a trailing leftover period shorter than 3 months uses actual-days ÷ 365 simple interest. For non-cumulative FDs, that same quarterly interest is paid out to you instead of compounding, and only the principal returns at maturity.

How do I check my FD maturity date?

Enter your deposit date and tenure (years, months and days) and the calculator shows your exact maturity date, the maturity amount, and a full quarter-by-quarter breakdown. Sign in with Google to save the FD and get a Google Calendar reminder on the maturity date.

Can I calculate FD maturity for an exact number of days, not just whole years?

Yes — tenure can be entered as any combination of years, months and days, from 7 days up to 3650 days (10 years), not just round years.

Does this calculator handle premature withdrawal or FD-break penalties?

Not yet — it calculates the maturity value assuming the FD is held for its full tenure. It does not compute the reduced interest rate or penalty a bank applies on premature ("break") withdrawal.

What's the difference between cumulative and non-cumulative FDs?

Cumulative FDs compound interest every quarter and pay everything out at maturity. Non-cumulative FDs pay interest out every quarter instead, returning only the principal at maturity. A toggle at the top of the calculator switches between the two.

Is this FD maturity calculator free to use?

Yes, it’s free with no sign-in required. Signing in with Google is optional and only needed to save FDs and get a Google Calendar maturity reminder.
